The Calling

"The Calling" is an immersive fire theater show produced by Flambeaux Fire. It is also an original musical and living art exhibition, using wearable fire sculptures as well as including steel and bronze fine art sculptures in the storyline.

Styled as a large-scale spectacle show, "The Calling" is a magical quest for truth and freedom in a conflicted fantasy world that mirrors our own current reality. The story and production is a creative collaboration of those with hearts of fire, and for those who dare to live in dreams. It brings together an expanding cast of NYC's best artists that believe in dreaming and playing out fantasies and presenting themselves through archetypes.

The 'other-worldly' experience of the show is heightened by its location: the seemingly clandestine and cavernous Gowanus Ballroom in Brooklyn, NYC. A metal fabrication shop by day and performance and art exhibition space by night, it is an ideal industrial setting for our dark fairy tale, and a safe, mostly concrete location for fire art.

We hope to continue making our dreams a reality and our reality into our dreams. We are aiming for our next shows to take place in mid-July and min-November in Brooklyn. After that….we hope to take Manhattan on our journey as well.

Here is a sample of some of the cast of past shows and future:

Fantazia 360

Flambeaux Fire is incredibly excited about their first EDM stadium experience: Fantazia 360!
Our first pilot date in April at the Mullins Center at UMASS Amherst proved a whopping success with sold-out tickets and rave reviews.

Last winter, our beautiful contortionist Natasha King passed along our information to NV Concepts in hopes of partnering us in their new creative endeavor: integrating theatrics into an EDM concert. We were about to perform for Cosmic Opera in NYC, which was an awesome experience, but partnering with NV meant that we were able to write the entire show with them, help design the stage, and be fully involved in the creative process of a huge stadium concert with a team of people that are just as passionate and dedicated as us.
Working with the gang at NV Concepts has been so refreshing. It is rare that we can be included in a vision that everyone whole-heartedly believes in and proves magical results.
The DJ's involved in the project, DSK CHK, Bamboora, and Rapture, were also equally excited and dedicated to making Fantazia a completely unique experience and were a joy to work with as well.
Normally at an EDM concert, the DJ stands behind his booth at one end of the room fist pumping in jeans and t-shirt. We aren't trying to put down the genre, we are just INCREDIBLY theatrical people at heart.
Fantazia 360 takes place on a rotating circular platform in the middle of the stadium with audience on all sides and stages jutting out into the audience from three sides as well so that the action can come INTO the atmosphere and be involved and connect with everyone.
The DJ booth was a gutted baby grand piano.
Flambeaux Fire had their aerial crescent moon lyra over one end of the stage, their aerial star with sparklers, and silks on another end. 8 performers in total wowed the audience with massive fire shows, aerial, contortion, and theatrical antics. Bamboora was introduced dressed as Satan and with a flaming pitchfork. DSK CHK left his station to dance with the contortionist, Natasha, and place her into the aerial star before it rose into the air spinning with sparks flying out in every direction.
There was 3 solid hours of spectacle, story, and amazing tracks that left UMASS wanting more. Fantazia will provide, with Fall 2012 tour dates lining up fast.
Here are some photo highlights of the April date with some previews of what to expect during our Fall 2012 tour!

Art + Living

The second decade of the 21st century has seen a growing trend of lifestyle "art" properties.  A growing number of hotels, condos and luxury apartment buildings are incorporating cutting edge design and architecture with contemporary visual and performance arts to attract clientele with an edgier, more creative lifestyle.

The owners and creative directors of these establishments have chosen Flambeaux Fire's art installations and fire performances to complement their aesthetic and mission at openings and special events because of FFLLC's wearable fire pieces and living art such as the "human candelabra."  The 21C Museum Hotel, Hotel Eventi, 305W16, and The Dream Hotel Downtown and Dream South Beach are all art-minded spaces that have featured Flambeaux Fire art and performances this year.

Steve Wilson, with his contemporary art museum and hotel, '21C', in Louisville, Kentucky, could very well be credited as one of the small handful of entrepreneurs who began  combining a venue for high-end art exhibitions with a hotel. Flambeaux Fire, with Aerial Artistry and cream-of-the-crop NYC burlesque performers, arrived at 21C in their "art limos" June 2010 for an entire day and night of solid shows, including Julie Atlas Muz's famed performance from the 2004 Whitney Biennial. Flambeaux and Lady C performed their "Gold Show" on the main stage, with their signature wearable fire sculptures for an enthusiastic audience.

Edgy real Estate developer Harlan Berger's newest addition to the NYC landscape is the notorious Chelsea art condo "305W16", dubbed the 'Death Star' by locals and press for its dark and slick exterior. A controversial addition to the rooftop lounge was Burning Man artist Robert Buchholz' 34-foot mosaic sculpture of daisies, a prime example of Berger's passion to combine alternative art scenes with his A-list clientele. At the exclusive opening, Flambeaux was raised 50 feet in the air, hovering over one of the building's terraces, calm and angelic in a cradle of flames, explosions and 20 foot metallic wings of fire.

Vikram and Sant Chatwal of the Chatwal empire of hotels have outdone themselves with the 'Dream Downtown' in Chelsea, NYC, and the 'Dream South Beach' in Miami, both of which had Flambeaux Fire dazzling the glitteratti with Rock-L Productions. The owners of Tao (Las Vegas) and Lavo collaborated to produce the rooftop nightclub PH-D at Dream Downtown along with the hotel's food and drink options. En route to this uber-VIP club, the guests encountered our human candelabras. Meanwhile, Flambeaux played with fire on a private deck for a hot tub full of models that could be seen from PH-D, which distracted Leonardo DiCaprio so much he couldn't finish an interview with Style magazine! The glass-bottomed rooftop pool became the setting for Flambeaux Fire's Vegas-style fire display with Future C and Lady C blazing both by and in the pool, wearing outfits of fire and metal chain as they swam with the mermaids. In South Beach Lady C swam and danced in their rooftop pool while Flambeaux breathed fire from above.
